Ideas for Backyard Parties
The backyard can be the perfect spot to host a party for any occasion, whether it is a graduation party, baby shower or family get together. Some great themes for backyard parties include a garden party, luau and an old fashioned barbecue.
Garden Party
A garden party is the perfect setting for a bridal or baby shower. Set the scene with linen tablecloths and vases full of fresh flowers. Set out pitchers of tea or water with fresh lemon slices placed in them. Try serving an assortment of tea sandwiches and scones. A watermelon fruit basket would look great in the center of the table. For favors, plant little herb or strawberry plants in miniature terra cotta pots. Other ideas for favors include lavender sachets and vintage seed packets. Try setting up a game of croquet or a fun card game to keep guests entertained.
Luau
To set the scene for a luau party, set up tiki torches in the backyard. Wrap a grass table skirt around the table and set citronella candles on top of the table. Good ideas for food include an assortment of grilled skewers and seafood. A tropical fruit salad made with sliced oranges, pineapple, grapes and bananas would be great for a luau. Make an assortment of tropical drinks for guests. Have grass skirts and leis on hand to pass out to the guests. For entertainment, have a limbo contest or start a conga line to Hawaiian music.
Barbecue
A barbecue is a great way to gather friends and family together. Keep it simple with plastic tablecloths, plates and silverware. A clean wheelbarrow filled with ice makes a great cooler for drinks. Hamburgers and hot dogs are always great at a barbecue, as well as cole slaw and potato salad. Set out baskets with chips and pitchers of lemonade or iced tea. For entertainment, set up areas for three-legged races, badminton, cornhole and horseshoes. For an extra special touch, set up a table with different kinds of old fashioned candy. Let guests fill bags or small buckets with candy to take home as favors.
