Ideas for Paint Color Schemes

When remodeling your home you may decide to repaint rooms to achieve a modern look or to simply replace worn out paint. Hardware stores are full of hundreds of paint colors so it can be hard to narrow down which color is right for you.

Earthy

To achieve an earthy color scheme use greens, browns, dark blues and beige. Earthy color schemes are typically dark colors, but if you are painting a small room you may want to consider light colors to avoid making the room appear smaller.

Relaxation

Bedrooms and bathrooms can benefit from a relaxing color scheme. Try colors like dark purple with silver or gray accents. Also consider light blues and pinks for a lighter more cottage feel. You can also use deep reds and burnt oranges to make the room inviting and warm.

Neutral

The beauty of a neutral color scheme is that it will match almost any furniture you put in the room. If you are painting a general use room, consider using creams, beige and dark browns. These are classic colors that should not go out of style and will not make your room appear dated.

Colorful

For rooms like the kitchen and dining room, consider a colorful scheme. Use primary colors to wake up the room. The kitchen and dining room are two of the most used rooms in the house; make them a bright focal point by using bright reds accented with sun yellow. You can also experiment with bright geometrical designs to add a bit of flair to the room.
