Inpatient Alcohol Rehabilitation Programs
Often times the last option for chronic alcohol abusers are inpatient alcohol rehabilitation programs, which provide 24/7 monitoring and assistance for patients. The best results for leading an alcohol-free life are achieved when attending these programs. Certain aspects should be taken into consideration when deciding which program to attend.
- Detox: Most patients will need to take part in detoxification programs before rehabilitation will begin. Patients may experience symptoms of withdrawal when alcohol is completely removed from the body. If this occurs, medication may be required for the patient.
- Treatment Programs: Depending on the center, the program that is used will vary. 12 step programs, therapy and behavior modification are types of programs that are implemented at these centers. It is important to review the programs available, because 12 step programs do not work for everyone. In many cases, patients must make extreme behavior modifications for a program to work for them.
- Success Rates: It is important to review the success rates for the program you are researching. You can sit down with a director or counselor at the program and ask them to provide you with success statistics. Often times success rates may be published on a facility's website. A program that provides great results will have success rates of 70% or higher. Cost may be the number one priority; however, if the program cannot provide a high success rate then the money is best spent elsewhere.
- Payment Options: In some cases employer insurance programs may cover the cost of the program. However, if it does not there are always options of medical loans, payment plans or state assisted medical financing. Many companies will work with patients and family members to ensure costs can be covered before attending the program.
- Follow-Up Programs: After a patient has completed a program, it is important for a facility to provide aftercare. Many facilities offer group support networks, family assistance support and mental health counselors after the program has been completed. It is easy for a patient to go back to their bad habits if they do not have the support network they need to succeed.
