Instructions for Origami With Printing Paper
Paper folding has become a popular art project in local schools everywhere, but this fad has been around longer than most school buildings. Origami is a Japanese art practiced since the late seventeenth century. If you want to learn to shape paper into animals and other objects, you can do it with a plain piece of printing paper.
- Place the sheet of paper in front of you on a flat surface. Make sure that the paper is turned horizontal. This means the paper will look wider rather than taller.
- Take the lower right corner and fold it up to touch the top of the paper, forming a perfect triangle. The paper edges should be lined up perfectly. You will have extra paper on the left side.
- Press your fingers firmly and smooth the triangular fold to make sure it will not flip open.
- Take the extra rectangular portion of the paper and fold it over the edge of the large triangle. Again, smooth the crease.
- Cut off the rectangular part along the crease just formed. Throw away or recycle the rectangular piece. You may also keep it for smaller origami projects.
- Follow the origami instructions to create an animal or object you wish to make. All origami instructions will want you to begin with a square piece of paper. Now you have one.
