Instructions on Housesitting

When leaving your home for an extended period of time it’s a good idea to have a house sitter to care for your house in your absence. It is helpful to provide written instructions of what to expect from them.

  • Leave a contact number and address where you will be staying. This can be a landline or your cell phone or both. Leave a local neighbor or friend’s phone number. Leave the day and time you are expecting on getting home.

  • If you have pets you will need a feeding schedule as well as walk and play time instructions. Have your veterinarian’s number and address along with a signed letter giving permission for treatment and how you are attending to pay. For example: We give you permission to authorize emergency medical care for our pets as deemed necessary and we will be responsible for full payment of such care. You can add to contact you before the treatment and sign with your signature at the bottom of the letter.

  • Plants will need instructions for feeding and watering as well as the location of the plants in the home.

  • Mail instructions should include the location of the mailbox, what time to pick it up and where you would like it to be placed until you get home. If you are waiting for an important correspondence explain what to look for and advise whether or not you are to be notified when it arrives.
