Job Description of a Social Services Director
Social service directors are senior level professionals with very important jobs. They are employed by the state to ensure rules and regulations are being met in the Department of Social Services. These state professionals also work to make sure that the needs of people in the community are being met.
Education and Training
Most social service directors hold a master’s degree in social work. Most all social workers are required to be licensed. At minimum a director may hold a Bachelor’s degree working on receiving their master’s. Director’s receive their training by working in different areas of the human services field.
Duties of Social Service Directors
Directors oversee that the policies that are incorporated by the state are being met by all departments. They design and incorporate different programs based upon the needs o the community. There job is also to record all day to day activities of each department and make sure they are kept in compliance. Directors meet with social workers and other team members to determine what can be done to improve certain departments.
Assisting Clients One on One
Some directors work directly with clients themselves. They may meet with them and determine their needs. Directors are trained to assist and determine what type of services should be given to assist a person or their family.
Salary
Social service directors make a very nice salary. It was reported that in 2010 alone most directors made over $70, 000. With the proper education, right training, location and years on the job directors can make more.
