Kayak Fishing Gear Tips
Kayak fishing is becoming pretty popular and there are so many different styles of kayaks that finding one afforably priced is fairly easy. Outfitting your kayak for fishing takes a little strategy and a lot of common sense. Setting up your fishing gear is easier with a little help from those who have already done it.
Proper Clothing
Although this is not technically fishing gear, it is part of being prepared to fish safely and responsibly. Wear clothing as if you were expecting to fall in the water. It is always better to be prepared because while fishing, your body will be making maneuvers which are not normal for kayaking.
First Aid Kit
Keep a first aid kit with you in the kayak at all times. This kit should include bandages, antiseptic, tape and gauze. Make sure to place these items in a waterproof bag and keep it secured to the kayak using rope or straps. Cuts from fishing hooks happen very often so better safe than sorry.
Bait Sled
Using a bait sled will allow for more room inside of the kayak. There are many options available for this and most are affordable. These are easy to attach via rope and can be towed into place once you reach your fishing destination.
Anchor
You will definately want to buy an achor to keep your kayak from drifting. There are fishing kits that you can buy that have anchors and anchor mounts included. Some people have used rebar with a hole drilled in it and then secured with a light weight nylon rope as an anchor. This works well as it uses very little space inside of the kayak.
