Law Enforcement Training Online and Certification
Serve and protect – that is the stated goal of law enforcement officers. Law enforcement is a dangerous field that requires a great deal of training. In order to be successful in a career as a police officer, there is a great deal of training that is required. There are a number of courses that can be taken online, which will result in certification in a number of different techniques.
Keep in mind that completing these courses will not certify you as a police officer – that requires attendance of a state recognized police academy.
- Master your weapon. Weapons training can be one of the most critical skills that a law enforcement officer will learn. Know your weapon inside and out including sighting, reloading and clearing malfunctions. It is not enough to be accurate while remaining stationary and shooting at a target. Shooting while moving, can save your life and is an essential skill that should be mastered before patrolling out in the field.
- Understand the importance of tactical training. There are a number of training courses available that are geared towards law enforcement that center around self-defense. Self defense techniques include controlling the situation by compelling compliance and incapacitating a difficult or unruly suspect. Other tactical training could include interrogation techniques, subduing a suspect, and securing a location. Police officers have to deal with a variety of situations. Often no day is like the previous one, and their training has to prepare them to deal with any situation.
- Enroll in traffic law training. In their day to day duties, police officers will need to perform routine traffic stops, citing drivers for speeding, drunk and impaired driving, and possibly high speed chases. It is imperative that officers understand the traffic laws in their jurisdiction in order to properly enforce them. Most training courses covering this material will teach the student to perform these duties with proficiency and safety.
