Toxic Mold Cleanup

Mold Cleanup From Dirt Floor Basements

If your basement floor is unfinished and simply a dirt slab, you can still develop mold on the dirt if the conditions are right. Removing this mold so that it does not return is not as hard as you would think. All you need are a few common household products to effectively clean and remove all traces of mold.

  • Before you treat the basement floor for mold, you should open all windows and doors to the basement so that the basement is able to properly circulate the air. The cleaners that you will be applying will need proper air circulation in order to dry out and not cause more mold to form on your dirt basement floor.

  • Bleach is commonly used to clean hard surfaces; however it can be used to effectively treat mold on a dirt floor as well. Combine equal parts of bleach and water in the canister of a garden sprayer and attach to a standard hose. Spray down the dirt with your bleach solution so that it is thoroughly saturated, effectively killing the mold beyond the surface of the dirt.

  • If you are looking for an all-natural solution for removing mold from a dirt basement you can use vinegar in place of bleach. Apply the vinegar solution using the same application process as mentioned above with the bleach cleaner. Vinegar is able to treat mold as effectively as bleach without the harsh chemicals.

  • Make sure that you have located the source of the water in your basement. You need to fix the problem that is causing the moisture in your basement so that the mold does not come back. Before beginning the cleaning process, you need to effectively fix the problem.
