What are the Specifications for Mold and Mildew Removal?

Mold and mildew grow in areas where warmth and humidity are prevalent. Some forms of mold can be toxic; therefore, mold should be removed right away. There are ways to clean and remove mold that will both clean the surface and kill the mold spores in the air as well.

In the Home

Mold and mildew often form in the home when there is a source of moisture, such as a flood, leaky pipe or in the bathroom where moisture is commonly found. You can easily kill and remove mold on surfaces within your home by combining equal parts of bleach and water in a common household spray bottle. Simply spray the bleach cleaning solution on the surface of the mold and allow it to sit for a few minutes, and then wipe it away with a clean rag and hot water. Be sure to thoroughly dry the area after the mold has been removed.

Outside

Mold can form outside on your lawn and plants when there is too much fertilizer used or when it has been overwatered. Piles of yard waste can also cause mold and mildew to form in your lawn and garden. There are fungicides on the market that you can purchase at your local home improvement store that can easily remove this type of mold and mildew. To prevent this from happening, use fertilizers sparingly and remove yard waste from the lawn right away.

In the Air

Mold spores can become airborne within a home if the mold and mildew is left untreated. Mold spores can cause people to become sick. Running a quality air purifier in your home can effectively filter mold spores and other toxins out of the air in your home. You can also further improve the quality of the air in your home by adding houseplants. House plants can naturally filter the air and remove mold spores that are in your home.
