Process of Hooking Up a Trailer Rental to Your Vehicle

If you are towing a trailer behind your vehicle, it is important to know how to hook up the trailer safely. Follow these general guidelines for hooking up your rental trailer. Once you know exactly how to hook up your trailer, you will feel more confident knowing it is safely secured.

Hooking Up a Trailer Rental

1. If you already have a hitch on your vehicle, you should make sure the ball on the hitch of your vehicle fits into the trailer's hitch.

2. If you do not have a hitch, you can rent a hitch along with your trailer or purchase one.

3. Make sure all bolts are secure on your vehicle's hitch, as well as the rental trailer's hitch.

4. If your trailer has wired lights, check that they are working correctly.

5. Raise the trailer hitch to allow your vehicle to move under it. Be sure the trailer's chock is secure so the trailer does not roll.

6. Back your vehicle slowly up to the trailer and align your hitch perfectly with the trailer's hitch. Have someone help guide you. The ball on your vehicle's hitch should be directly under the trailer's hitch.

7. Using the trailers jack; lower the trailer onto the hitch.

8. Fasten the locks securely.

9. Hook up all safety chains.

10. Connect the electrical system.
