Simple Aromatherapy Recipes

Aromatherapy oil is more than just massage oil. Smelling scrumptious is only one of the attributes found in these healing blends. Although the aromatic oil is great for a soothing massage, there are many other applications for their use. From skincare to bath salts and cleansers, you can make them all with some household items.

Although the therapeutic healing properties are important, the main focus is on creating a desireable scent. It is important to use only natural ingredients to produce healthier oil recipes.

There are some important safety considerations to follow when mixing your own aromatherapy formula. Always wear surgical disposable gloves, as some essential oils by themselves are strong enough to cause skin reactions. Do not use homemade massage oils on children under two or on pregnant women without consulting a doctor first. Do not apply to broken or infected skin.

You will need:

  • Air tight dark glass containers

  • Medium sized glass bowl

  • Eyedropper (provided with essential oil purchase)

  • Sweet Almond (carrier oil)

  • Roman Chamomile (essential oil)

  • Lavender (essential oil)

Calming Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 ounce Sweet Almond

  • 10 drops Roman Chamomile

  • 5 drops Lavender

Mix the ingredients directly in a clean glass bottle. Swirl the mixture gently until thoroughly blended. Massage the feet and legs for a calming effect. Store this aromatic oil in a cool dry place away from heat and light, tightly sealed to preserve the scent.

Bath Salts Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups Epsome salt

  • 15-24 drops Lavender/Roman Chamomile mixture

  • 1 tablespoon Sweet Almond Oil or other carrier oil

Place the Epsom salt in a medium sized glass bowl. Add Sweet Almond oil to the salt and mix well with a spoon. Stir in the Lavender oil and mix very well. Store your bath salts in a decorative jar with a tight fitting lid to keep them fresh and sweet. To use, add 1/2 cup of bath salts to your bath water and mix well with your hands. Make sure that the salt is dissolved before entering your bath.

Carpet Deodorizer Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 20-30 drops Lavender

  • 1 16 ounce box of baking soda

Add the baking soda to a medium glass bowl. Stir in the Lavender drops and mix well. Other essential oils can be used as well, but do your research. Use something that will not stain your carpet. Store the mixture in a glass jar or airtight container. To use carpet deodorizer, simply sprinkle onto your carpet. Powder sifter containers are available on the web. After 20 minutes, vacuum and your carpets will be fresh.
