Specifications on Toy Haulers
Toy haulers are not what they seem. They are towable RV’s designed to accommodate the needs of the human-adventurer and their toys, e.g. ATVs, SeaDoos, and snowmobiles. The majority of toy haulers are designed for regular towing behind pickup trucks and SUV, but some are equipped with a fifth-wheel package.
Specifications vary depending upon the needs of the customer, the price and the vehicle that will be used while towing the trailer. They range in price and capacity from pop up campers to an Envy BSSA with a fifth wheel package. Pop-up campers do not have the capacity to haul large toys inside the camper and must utilize exterior trailers or have reinforced tops for support.
Unless you are planning to purchase a vehicle specifically intended to tow your toy hauler, the 2008 Guide from Dune Sports suggests these are the weight specifications, you should know, for your vehicle:
- GCWR
- GVWR
- GAWR
- MTR
If you have these weights readily available, you will know which trailers are best suited for the vehicle you own.
While the Freedom LTZ260BL has a length of 29-feet, base weight of 4,850-pounds and a cargo capacity of 2,750-pounds it might be more appropriate for your needs because of the towing capacity of your vehicle. The much larger Envy BSSA has a length of 38-feet, a base weight of 17,200-pounds and a cargo weight of 4,900-pounds and needs a truck equipped with a fifth wheel to tow it.
The prices for toy haulers range from $16,000 to well-over $90,000 and have a great variety of floor plans and interior designs.
