Stage Decoration Ideas

All the world is a stage. This may be correct, but it is important how it can be decorated. Decorations on a stage can send a particular message to the audience watching from below. When producing a play such as Hamlet, the scenes are dark and foreboding with heavy fabrics for tapestries.

When producing a play such as The Little Mermaid there are ways to make it seem as though the audience were in the water with Ariel. The whole point is the decorations depend on the mood being set for the audience. Dark and foreboding or light and airy will be of use when it comes to decorating for specific scenes. Theater always goes with the feeling of the play and the scenes within for any decorating that might be done. When it comes to producing and decorating a dance number, the stage should be set openly and with eye-catching decorations. Think about the song playing in the background. Ask a few key questions about the song and the dance number. Talk to others members of the production and get a feel for the mood of the number.

For scenes that need to be changed quickly, make sure all the decorations can be moved easily and without much fuss. This will aid in other decorations being put into place for the next scene. Doing a wedding scene on stage is almost a no-brainer. Flowers, tulle, and light, bright colors abound when a wedding scene is to be played. Unless the wedding scene is dark, then the flowers and colors should be flexible according to the scene. Once all the parameters the decorations are set it is time to choose what will shine onstage.

Backdrops can be easily made with cloth and some paint. Make sure the paint is washable and enlist some other production member to help out. This will bring the troupe closer and will make the production even better. Children's theater can have all the fun and imagination of a child. Wildly bright color schemes, puppets that dance or sing at the appropriate times, and landscapes that are out of this world will all make a child sit up and pay attention to what is going on. Decorating a stage need not be difficult, it only needs to set up a scene and be easily moved or removed.
