Striped Bass Fishing Tips
Striped bass is a very popular fish to catch. They are known to put up a fight. Stripers swim and fight underwater when they have been caught. Here are a few tips to keep in mind on your next striper fishing trip.
Time and Location
The striped bass can be caught almost anytime of day. The best time to fish for striper is right after sunset and right after sunrise. Midsummer months are the peak time for nighttime striped bass fishing. Fishermen have success when fishing close to the shore. The tidal movement creates "live" water. The movement brings food to the hungry schools of fish.
Equipment
Most fishermen use a 10 or 12 foot rod with a 40 pound test line. Swimming plugs and live eels are used for bait. When jigging or using bottom fish bait, fisherman should use a heavy action spinning rod with a 20 pound test line. When baiting the hook place the hook into the spine of the live bait. That is the most effective method to use.
The Catch
After the fisherman catches a striped bass it has be taken care of properly. If you are going to eat the bass, you will have to gut it, bleed it and place it on ice immediately. When the ice melts, drain the water off the fish. You do not want the striped bass soaking in warm water. Keeping the bass on ice will make sure it stays firm. It will be fresh and ready to be cut into steaks.
