What are PE Uniforms?

Styles for Nursing Uniforms

Nursing uniforms have changed throughout history. The nurse’s uniforms of World War 1 included a full length skirt, a shirt with long sleeves, a full length apron, and a small white hat. The 1960s had a knee length dress with a high collar, a white apron and a white hat the covered the nurses bun toward the back of the head. Fortunately today, nurses wear scrubs that are available in many styles.

Nurses have a variety of styles to wear to ensure their comfort and functionality. There are name brand scrubs made by Dickies, Cherokee, Medline, and Urbane. As with most clothing people find what comfort is for them and purchase the brand that supplies the most comfort and the appearance desired. Nursing uniforms are sold in many franchise retail stores or specialty stores.

Pants

The different styles in pants include an elastic waistband, or draw string waistband. It is a personal choice of which is more comfortable. Most pants come with wider legs to allow for easy movement, but you can choose a small leg width. Some pants offer a wide flared bottom leg. It is important to select pants that are not too long to avoid tripping.

Tops

Scrub tops come in many different styles including long sleeve, short sleeve, or three quarter sleeved. Almost all nursing uniform tops come with a V neck design to allow mobility. Medical professionals have to react quickly to situations and need the ability to move quickly without worrying about the clothing becoming too tight.  There are assorted sizes, patterns, and colors to choose from. Some nursing uniform tops come with pockets at the bottom front of the top. The pockets are slim to avoid catching the material on any objects.
