What are PE Uniforms?

Many people are familiar with school uniforms. A lot of schools, including most Catholic schools, require that students wear a certain uniform to school. Oftentimes, this uniform consists of a skirt and top for girls, and slacks and a polo for boys. PE uniforms are similar to school uniforms, except that they are only used for part of the day.

Physical Education

PE stands for physical education. Physical education is also known as gym class. It is the time of day where students get to relax, unwind and participate in athletic games and exercise. Physical education is often a highlight of the student's day. The term PE uniforms refers to the clothing that students wear in order to participate in physical education classes. PE uniforms are becoming increasingly common at schools. They have always been a standard in schools that require students to wear daily uniforms.

Types of PE Uniforms

PE uniforms must be designed with comfort and breathability in mind. Oftentimes, a PE uniform consists of a lightweight t-shirt and cotton shorts. In cooler weather, the shorts may be substituted for nylon warm-up type pants, or even sweat pants. The goal of PE uniforms is to keep students comfortable while maintaining a sense of community among the physical education class.

Special Touches

While some PE uniforms are simply cotton clothing in the school's colors, other uniforms feature the school's name, logo or mascot. These days, schools and parents can purchase PE uniforms with any type of writing on them that they desire. You can have your child's school logo written across the back of his t-shirt, or stitched onto the leg of their shorts. There are many options for personalization when it comes to PE uniforms.
