The Best Mountain Bike Routes

Mountain biking is a popular extreme sport that entails maneuvering specially designed bicycles over sand, steep trails and other rough terrain. The activity requires balance, core strength, self-reliance and endurance. Nearly anyone in good shape can perform it almost anywhere, but braver, more advanced riders constantly seek out the best and most challenging mountain bike trails they can find.

Munds Wagon and Schnebly Hill Trails

Stretching just over 21 miles, the Munds Wagon and Schnebly Hill Trails in Sedona, Arizona, are said to be the most challenging and beautiful trails in the United States. Both sections are clearly marked and easy to follow. However, they feature narrow paths and rocky terrain; therefore, only the most experienced of mountain bikers should attempt them.

French Gulf Run

The French Gulf Run is a popular mountain biking trail located in a California town of the same name. A favorite among advanced riders, the trail is 100 miles of thick forest areas, steep inclines, winding trails, rushing streams and wildlife. Because of its length, many who attempt the trail opt to camp overnight at the halfway mark.

Lost Lake Trail

Ranked one of the top 100 mountain biking trails in the world, the Lost Lake trail in British Columbia is suitable for intermediate to advanced riders. Located in a town called Whistler, the trail is six miles long and features navigation markers, easily maneuverable paths and log bridges.

Amassa Back Mountain Bike Trail

This trail, located in Moab, Utah, winds up and down a steep cliff. It stretches 11 miles over a mostly sandstone terrain that features drop-offs, steep inclines and sharp turns.
