Having a proper first aid kit can mean the difference in a minor or a major injury. Accidents can happen anywhere, in the car, at sporting events, at home or in the workplace. While the basic kit is the same, there are different things for different places. Being prepared with the right first aid kit can avert a disaster.
The Basics
A first aid kit is intended to help stem an injury or treat an accident victim until proper treatment can be obtained. A basic kit should include bandages, Band-Aids, ointments, burn cream, and breathing barriers to name a few. Everyone who has access to the kit should be taught the basics of first aid. The kit should be checked two to four times a year for expiration dates on the ointments and creams and the kit should be well stocked at all times.
Home First Aid Kits
Home first aid kits while containing the basics need to kept well stocked as well. It is best to have two first aid kits, a small one to carry outside and a large one for inside it the best thing to do.
Car First Aid Kits
Because automobile accidents can be so severe, it is best to be fully prepared with your first aid kit. Among the basics, you should have thermal blankets to keep people warm that have gone into shock, cold compresses and instant-heat pads. Keep the first aid kit in a part of the car that is easy to reach and keep the kit away from spills such as oil and other automotive products.
