Three Types of VOIP Phone Systems
VoIP or “Voice-over Internet Protocol” is a transmission technique and communication protocol used to deliver verbal communication over the Internet instead of the telephone lines. VoIP phone system solutions are made for every type of business whether small or large. With the VoIP system, calls can be made over local or wide area networks. The system costs less than the regular phone service.
Soft Phone
This is an application that you install onto the laptop or desktop computer to make and receive calls. Soft phones are inexpensive and ideal for professionals constantly on the run. Call centers and road workers use these applications to make, route and receive calls. To use the soft phone, you communicate through a microphone and headphone plugged into the computer’s headphone jack or USB port.
USB Headsets
A USB phone looks like a standard phone. It is plugged into the USB port of a computer and relies on the VoIP software. A USB phone can be used together with applications like Skype to enhance the communication process. USP headsets are available at most electronic retailers. This allows you to make and receive calls using software downloaded to your computer. New electronic devices plug right into a router allow you to make calls without the computer.
Desktop Style VoIP Phones
This is the standard phone style, but instead of phone lines, it is connected through the companies Ethernet network through a broadband connection. This system comes with all of the standard analog phones capabilities, but with added digital features, and it does not require a computer. The cost of service to this system is much lower than the regular system once the equipment has been installed. This system is popular in businesses with a large network of phone users.
