Tips for Finding Jobs from the Internet

The popularity of the Internet has given job hunters a great resource from which to search for employment. The list of sites where you can post your resume is constantly increasing. Employers often post ads looking for help on the Internet in order to reach a wide variety of potential employees.

Be professional

While the Internet is often used for fun and is thought of as casual, in the business world it should be as professional as if you were sitting in front of a potential employer. You do not want to use Internet slang and abbreviations. Also, proper punctuation and grammar is important. Run your resume and correspondence through a spelling and grammar checking program before hitting send.

Another area you may want to think about is your email address. Be sure that is professional as well. Your name or initials would make a good email address. If you want to be creative and funny, set up separate personal and business email accounts.

Post your resume on the same sites that you visit to look for jobs

You never know who will see your resume and give you a call with a great job. Some companies have people on the lookout for new employees, but do not do much advertising, so posting your resume is a good way to get noticed.

One word of caution though is to thoroughly check out any person or company who contacts you. You want to make sure they are reputable. A quick search of the company name will usually bring up some information to enable you to make an informed decision.

Have a professional resume made if you can

When searching for a job over the Internet, have a professional resume done if possible. You could be competing with job candidates from across the country; you want to make sure your resume stands out.
