Tips on Auto Glass Installation
Auto glass perfects the view of a driver and keeps the roof intact if you ever get into an accident. Today’s auto glass actually supports the air bags too. This is why it is so important that it be installed correctly.
Selecting the Glass And Adhesives
- Make sure to tell the salesperson your car’s make and model whenever you go to purchase new auto glass.
- Ask the salesperson for the best type of adhesive. It will need to be strong enough to keep things intact and withstand the weather conditions in your area.
- Remember that adhesives have an important job: They keep you safe if you get into an accident.
Removing the Old Glass
- Be systematic whenever you remove your old windshield so that you will know how to install your new one.
- Wear gloves if your windshield is broken.
- Make sure to clean out all of the dirt around the area that you removed your old windshield from.
Installing the New Glass
- Follow the instructions on the adhesive that you are working with. This will tell you whether it needs to dry before being joined or if it needs to be joined right away.
- Remember that most adhesive will require at least one day to dry completely and bond the two materials together. Make sure to give it this time.
- Apply a rubber gasket around the edge of your windshield after the adhesive has dried in order to provide an additional boundary to prevent moisture from directly accessing the adhesive.
