Tips on Storing Power Tools
Maintaining and caring for power tools is the best way to make them last for years and to keep them functioning properly. The tools should be cleaned and stored to achieve the best performance out of them. When power tools are left sitting around they can accumulate dirt and dust which can cause them to malfunction.
Organize
Power tools can be stored on the walls with nails, screws or bolts. Each tool should have a designated space in the work area, which is usually located in the garage. Organizers with compartments can also keep many power tools stored. The cord to the power tool should be rolled up before it is placed on the wall or in the compartments. Placing the tools in their designated area also makes them easy to locate the next time they are needed.
Protect
Power tools should be protected from elements such as water, dust and sun. These elements can keep the tools from running properly and decreases their lifespan. If the tools are in the garage, they are exposed to more frequently to particles. Keep the tools in a well ventilated area so the vents on the tools can breath. Do not store them near moisture. If there are organizers with compartments in the work area, use them to store the power tools.
Maintain
Maintaining the tools is as important as storing the tools. The tools should be checked to see if they need cleaning after each use. Wipe away dust or debris with a toothbrush. Wipe the tools clean with a soft cloth. An air compressor can be used to blow dust and debris from the vents of the power tools. Screws and fasteners on the tools should be checked to ensure they are tight. Always check the cords after each use and before storing them.
