Top 3 Things to Consider Before Joining an Auto Club
Auto clubs help save people money in return for an upfront fee. However, some people may be wasting money because they never actually use their benefits. Here are three things you should consider before deciding to join an auto club.
Do You Really Need It?
Auto club memberships can be handy, but the main benefit is getting a free tow when you need it. While this benefit will save you money if you do need a tow, some people can go years without ever needing roadside assistance.
If you have the money to shell out, then it is probably a good idea to have this protection. However, if paying the club fee is squeezing your budget too tight, then you may want to consider taking your chances and paying out of pocket for a tow if you need it.
Do You Travel Frequently?
Someone who travels frequently is more likely to get use out of his or her auto club membership because he or she is on the road more. Someone who is on the road more will have a greater likelihood of needing roadside assistance at some point. Plus, frequent travelers will have more opportunities to use the hotel and rental car discounts offered by the auto club.
Is That Travel by Car?
Let’s face it, someone who travels by car in more likely to need roadside assistance than someone who travels by plane. Therefore, a car traveler may get more use out of their auto club membership than an air traveler. Furthermore, if the car traveler rents a car for his or her travels, he or she can save money there as well. An air traveler will still get some use out of the membership through hotel and rental car discounts, but will need to get a pretty steep discount or go on a long trip just to break even.
