Types of Corrugated Roofing

Corrugated roofing is generally used on flat roofs or roofs with a low slope. Corrugated roofing used to be made of metal but now corrugated roofing is made of several different materials. Some of these materials come in different colors for use to cover decks and porches.

Corrugated Roofing Styles

Corrugated roofing panels come in three different styles. The first style is the most common and what most people will picture when they think of corrugated roofing. This style is called a round corrugated panel. The other types are the alternating ridge panel and the square ridge panel. The alternating ridge panel will have two different size ridges, which have small valleys between the ridges. Square ridge panel will not usually be used for roofing applications.

Corrugated Roofing Materials

Corrugated roofing comes in several different materials but the various metal types are by far the more popular varieties, especially for roofing applications. The most common of the steel types are the galvanized steel panels. The other metal panels are aluminum and copper. Corrugated panels can also be found made of plastics. The metal panels are more durable than the plastic panels and are why the metal panels are more widely used in roofing. Plastic panels will be found in light duty applications such as greenhouses, deck roofs and other applications that are light duty and require light to come into the structure. Corrugated panels are one of the least expensive yet most durable of all roofing options. The shape of corrugated panels and the materials they are made of allow them to shed rain, snow and ice better than other roofing materials.
