How to Prepare for the Master Electrician Exam

Types of Master Electrician Tools

A master electrician is a person who has achieved the highest level of achievement in their field. However, the tools in their toolbox do not vary much from those who are apprentices. The basic tools of the trade change very little.

The following tools can be found in the toolbox of a master electrician:

  • Multimeter- This tool is the most essential and probably the most used tool in the electrician’s toolbox.  A multimeter measures voltage, amps and ohms and come in digital or analog varieties. They are vital in letting an electrician know if a wire is dead, among many other things.

  • Pliers- A good pair of needle nose or channel locks are the best friend of an electrician and are used constantly.

  • Fish tape- This allows an electrician to run a line through a pipe or another tight space. It is a long piece of metal with a hook at the end, allowing the electrician to “fish” the wire through the tight space.

  • Wire stripper- Although their primary purpose is in the name, they are also valuable in other ways. Wire strippers are often used to cut wire or to crimp the end of a wire.

  • Puncher- A puncher is able to put a round hole into a piece of drywall or metal, making the process of cutting a snap.

  • Flashlight- A bright LED flashlight is invaluable to the master electrician. It is not unusual for an electrician to work in a dark area, so a wide-beam flashlight is essential.
