Types of Patio Arbor
An arbor can be a wonderfully romantic way to either define certain areas of your garden or backyard or to provide a bit of local flair and color. Picking just the right arbor for your space isn’t nearly as difficult as you might think.
- An arbor can be built to nearly any size and specification, so if you are looking at the possibility of installing one it’s a good idea to know what an arbor is, and what it isn’t. Arbors are basically recessed or partially enclosed areas shaded by trees or shrubs or both. They are intended as small resting places within the garden.
- Formal gardens tend to stick with a more traditionally small arbor with trailing vines and flowers trained through a trellis in order to provide shade. Typically speaking, a true arbor will contain not only an inner recess, but also a bench or another form of seating to rest upon.
- The key to finding an arbor style that suits your space is to first figure out what you enjoy. Thumb through product catalogs or visit online garden centers for photographs of the most current trends. Don’t be afraid to ask questions about what might be right for your particular landscaping.
- Today, arbors are built with a variety of materials. If you discover a design you enjoy but aren’t crazy about the material, ask to see all the available building materials, including stains and color treatments. Remember to ask how the material you like best will impact the overall cost of your arbor.
