Water Remediation Techniques
Water remediation is the term used when referring to the process of cleaning water. Anytime water needs to be treated to make it safe for people it needs to go through a remediation process. Different towns and communities will use different techniques to remove potential toxins from the water supply.
There are several forms of water remediation throughout the world. Some techniques work better than others for specific toxins.
Bioaugmentation Remediation
Bioaugmention is used in areas where specific toxins or bacteria are found in the water supply. This is a specialized method where useful algae and bacteria are added to the water to break down the toxic particles in the water. These specific microorganisms will eat the pollutants and help produce cleaner water.
Oxygen Gas Injection Remediation
This is a method that is popular across the country because it's cost effective for large bodies of water. Oxygen or ozone is injected in to the water. This process will reach with organic compounds and toxin in the water to stabilize it.
Phytoremediation
Phytoremediation is a technique where certain plants are used to remove toxins from the water supply. This is considered a more environmentally friendly procedure, but it does have its drawbacks. It's not really cost effective. After the water is cleaned with the plants it has to go through another process to remove the plant particles from the water. The plants can also release some of the toxins back in to the water from time to time.
Pump and Treat Remediation
This process is done after toxins have been transformed in to solids or other waste that can be removed mechanically. The water is pumped from the ground and treating the water on the surface instead of treating the entire body of water. This isn't used as commonly as a stand-alone treatment because it's not been proven to be completely effective.
