Water Remediation Technology

Water remediation is the process in which water is cleaned and purified so it becomes safe for human consumption. As technology advances the natural water sources tend to become more polluted. As a result water remediation technology must move forward as well.

Water remediation is necessary to lessen the harmful effects of untreated water. As our society continues to advance the water sources continue to become polluted. Remediation helps to minimize the environmental impact that contaminated water can have.

Pollution Sources

There are many sources of pollution that can harm the natural water supplies. The biggest source of water pollutants according to the EPA is agricultural run-off. Pesticides and fertilizers, along with organic wastes can easily pollute a water supply. Other sources include industrial waste. While the EPA has worked very hard to minimize this, it is still a source of concern.

Remediation Types

There are several ways to clean water. The types of contaminants found will change the recommended process. Pump and treat processes will treat groundwater. Groundwater may be the source of drinking water for many, so this is an important technology. Other methods can be used for areas with very heavy contaminant concerns.

Advancing Technology

Just as with all other aspects of human existence, the longer we study the more we learn. The future of water remediation is widely unknown, but many companies are working on methods to detect contaminants and toxins that weren't once an issue and correct them. For example, it wasn't until recently that agencies discovered the presence of prescription medication toxins in water supplies. These new technologies will help provide clean and safe drinking water with little environmental impact to parts around the globe.
