What Is the Best Acura Integra?

Production of the Acura Integra ran from 1985 to 2006. During this period, Acura created four generations of the Integra. Each generation offered more power and luxury than the last. Though each successive generation built on previous qualities, the first generation preserved the spirit of the model.

The first generation Acura Integra began its test run in the US in 1986. This little Acura proved to be more successful than anyone previously suspected. Sales continued to climb through 1987. Acura reworked the Integra’s bodylines slightly and continued to produce this generation for two more years. In 1990, Acura completed redesigned the Integra; effectively killing the spirit of this tiny car. The Integra experienced three more abrupt changes before being killed off completely two decades later after the 2006 model year.

Both two door and four door configurations of the first generation were available for purchase. The US only received the hatchback version, but Australia and parts of Europe sold a sedan version. Consumers could only choose the one engine option available in the US: the D16A1. This four cylinder, 1.6 liter engine produces 118 horsepower and 103 lb/ft of torque. The gearbox boasts an impressive 4.21:1 ratio for quick acceleration off the line.

The rear seats fold down and create an impressive amount of storage capacity in the four door hatch model. This created cargo area that could carry a 42 inch TV home from the store without a problem. The TV’s package fit without even rubbing the inside panels. With the seats up, the first generation Integra fits two adults and three kids in child seats. The hatch area features room for both the spare tire and your luggage or groceries.

The Acura Integra went through an impressive amount of changes through the years. While the newer iterations of the Integra were exciting in their own right, the true spirit of these cars remain in the first generation alone.
