What are 4-Wheelers Used for?

While 4-wheelers are traditionally thought of as recreational or sporting vehicles, this is not necessarily their only function. They have a multitude of uses and serve many purposes on farms and in remote areas with rough terrain. Anyone who has ever owned or ridden a 4-wheeler can confirm that they are useful, as well as fun.

Trail and Off Road Recreational Riding

One of the most common uses of 4-wheeled vehicles is recreation.  Trail riding is common among 4-wheeler owners. It is also common to see a family riding together. These vehicles are also used on camping and hiking trips for transportation and to carry supplies. They help hikers reach trails that cannot be accessed by truck or car.

Hunting and Fishing

Some of the best spots to hunt or fish are inaccessible by truck, but too far to walk carrying your gear. Transportation of supplies to hunting and fishing spots is a perfect job for 4-wheeled vehicles. They have the power and capability to carry game from the woods to the truck, or a cooler full of fish.

Farming and Ranching

The agricultural applications for 4-wheelers are almost endless. Simple transportation over a large farm or ranch is just the beginning. Wheelers can tow equipment, carry tools and herd livestock. Some 4-wheelers have the power to tow the equipment necessary to plow, seed, fertilize and spray fields.

Transportation Into Remote Areas

Regardless of the terrain, 4-wheelers can go there. They climb rocks, hills, mountains and sand dunes. They cross water and swamps. Certain accessories may be necessary for some conditions, but 4-wheelers are adaptable.

Police Transportation

Police officers that patrol beaches, parks, wildlife preserves and similar environments find 4-wheelers offer the functionality and maneuverability they need to do their jobs.

Search and Rescue

The characteristics that make 4-wheelers useful in reaching remote areas, crossing rough terrain and functioning as police transportation are the same characteristics that make them useful in search and rescue missions. Fuel efficiency makes it possible to spend long periods of time searching large areas without the need to refuel.
