What is Melamine Dinnerware?

What are the Dangers of Melamine Dinnerware?

With the many kidnappings, wars and crimes being committed in society today, the last place we want to think of a danger zone is our own kitchens. However, melamine dishware can be very dangerous in certain cases. It’s up to you to learn the dangers of this dinnerware to protect you and your family.

1. Placing melamine dishes in an oven or microwave is not safe simply because of the material that makes up the product. Melamine resin is created when melamine, formaldehyde and urea are placed under pressure and heat. This resin is then formed into shapes to create the dinnerware. If these dishes are placed under further heat, such as a microwave or an oven consistently, the melamine resin can break down and release toxins that can get into your foods.

2. Incorrect production of melamine dishware can also be a hazard to consumers. If the conditions of the production process are not exactly correct at the manufacturing location, the melamine resin can be at risk for breaking down. At that point, your dinnerware will be more at risk to break down under heat.

3. Toxins can be released when high acidic foods are placed on the dishware. Blueberries, cranberries, canned fruit, yogurt, corn, and processed meat are all examples of high acidic foods. The high acid amounts in these foods can lead to the melamine plates breaking down and getting into your food. Melamine resin itself is a toxic substance and under very high heat toxic cyanide can also be released from melamine dishes. Cyanide poisoning can be fatal in that it can make the body unable to produce oxygen.
