Where to Find Good Student Health Insurance Plans

As a student there are many times when you may need to have good health insurance, and the school you attend may require you to carry a policy. Unfortunately, you may not have the extra money to pay for a good plan. Comparing multiple companies is the easiest way to get the most affordable plan, and it is very simple for anyone to do.

  1. Talk with your parents or guardians to see if there is a possibility of adding you onto their current policy. Many times it is possible for students who are enrolled full-time to go on their parent’s plans until they reach a certain age, as long as they are attending school. Employers will have different requirements and qualifications.

  2. Ask your employer if they have a health insurance plan that you can pay into, even if you aren’t a full time worker. Legally it is required for most companies to offer their employees some type of benefits. Be careful because these may not be less money than going out and getting your own private policy directly through a provider.

  3. Log onto the Internet and go to a search engine like Google or Yahoo, and type in “compare student health insurance plans” and pick one of the first few sites that comes up. This site will allow you to compare multiple different carriers at one time, and you can get the lowest price on a good plan this way.

  4. Choose a plan that is going to offer you the most coverage for the least amount of money, and show the quotes to multiple companies. This way they will compete against each other to get your business, and you are going to get the lowest possible price. Also ask for any promotions or discounts that could be going on at that time.

  5. Contact your local family service center if you are unable to get a good health insurance policy on your own and it if it is absolutely necessary that you have coverage. By filling out a simple application you may be able to qualify for a Medicaid or Medicare policy, all depending on what your age is, your financial status and what your personal circumstances are.
