Car rental tricks in Bozeman, Montana

Bozeman is one of those small, niche rental car markets where seasonal pricing can go through the roof. The main reason this happens is because visitors to the area are willing to pay these ridiculous premiums. If Hertz, Alamo, Thrifty, etc. where in any threat of not having enough cars to rent they would simply shift some from another seasonal area. Instead, our visitors are willing to pay upwards of $500 per day for a rental car during peak times. This is insane.
There are two reputable off-airport rental car companies servicing the Bozeman airport and surrounding area. Ressler Rentals, located at the Ressler GM/ Toyota dealership, and Phasmid Rentals. Ressler is a 'Toyota Rent-a-Car' program and offers the full line of Toyota vehicles- all pretty much brand new. Phasmid offers rental Chevrolet Suburbans and Subaru Outbacks only. However, they offer a both new and used car rentals allowing for a variety in price. Ressler, being a car dealership primarily operates on a fixed cost. Phasmid pricing operates seasonally and based on demand. Watch out for other independent car rental agencies operating in Bozeman and Belgrade. There are at least two that we know of that operate with insufficient insurance coverages and/ or poor customer service. Regardless, both of these companies rent clean, reliable vehicles at a fraction of the price of Big Box rental car agencies at the Bozeman Airport (BZN). More importantly, these two companies offer far superior, personalized service. These are local businesses that care about their product, versus being just another number for an international mega-conglomerate company. Get better service, rent a better car, save a good bit of money, and support local Montana business.
