Hiring a DJ for your Wedding

When looking at hiring a disc jockey for your wedding reception, it's VERY important to keep a few things in mind: Meeting the person(s) representing you - this does NOT mean a sales person, but the actual people that will be entertaining you and your guests!  Don't sign on the dotted line before you get to meet your talent!  If someone tells you, "Don't worry, we have just the right person" or something akin to that, walk away! Make sure you SEE their Business License AND Proof of Liability Insurance!!  I cannot stress this enough.  Many venues now REQUIRE a copy of insurance before they will allow DJs to set up any equipment.  If your DJ doesn't have it, they will tell him (and you) "Sorry, but we can't let you perform here without it."  Don't let that happen to YOU!!   If they didn't show you these two things BEFORE asking for your business, it may well be because they don't have them!  Ask them to provide copies BEFORE you sign the contract - don't stand for excuses on this one, no paperwork should mean no business. Check their integrity out also.  If they say they 'specialize' in Weddings, then that means they do NOT 'specialize' in all the other events.  You cannot specialize in everything.  Would you hire a foot specialist to operate on your brain?  Check on them later by calling a few days later and asking "Do you do kids parties?  You do?  Okay, we're looking for someone that specializes in sweet 16's, are you a specialist in those?"  You get the picture.  They might specialize in 1-2 things that are similar (Weddings&Corporate; events are both considered top end 'elegant' affairs) but someone who does lots of school dances can't be a wedding specialist.  They are completely different types of events with completely different types of people. Next, are they a REAL business?  Do they have a REAL email (not yahoo, gmail, hotmail, etc.) account?  Is the business card a TOP QUALITY card or one they may have printed this morning?  Is their website their OWN site or just a web 'sheet' on someone else's site?  Are they FULL TIME or just a weekend warrior?  Some will say they are - ask if you can meet them on Tuesday at 10am.  If they say sure, you might even say, well, actually, maybe Wed. at 6pm would be better.  If they are available both days AND evenings they are likely to be full time. Finally, if their pricing is really cheap (like under $800) then it's likely they are either more interested in QUANTITY than QUALITY, or, they may not actually have the experience they say they have.  Don't hire a cookie cutter DJ to perform at your once-in-a-lifetime event!  There are many top notch wedding specialists out there.  They may cost a little more than the 'cheapy' DJ, but in the long run you will get a better VALUE as well as peace of mind! Invite the President (and/or Pope) to your Wedding!! Really!!

REALLY!! No kidding! If you send an invitation to the President of the United States and the First Lady. (Address it to the White House in Washington, D.C.,) you will receive a congratulatory message that is a wonderful keepsake!  And who knows, MAYBE they will actually show up!  (probably not, but you never know these days) Also, if you are Catholic, the pope will send you a papal blessing. Ask your local parish priest to help you out.
