I know we all have our deatiled informaiton on Merchant Circle to tell people what we do, but I would like to have a list (like a business index) in one place (on this blog) that I can look at to see who does what when I need something. That way we would know which site to go to for more information. If you think this would be a good resource directory then please post your informaiton on this blog includingprimary business activity as the first word, such as plumbing or bookkeeping then a brief statement of 20 word or less including what is special about your business, the business name, a contact name and title, the business address including county and the service area if limited, as well as the business phone, web-page, and email if you want to share all of them. That way we will all have access to a listing that will give us a good idea of what services are available in our area so we can access it whenever we are looking for services we need personally or for our businesses. Hope everyone thinks this is a good idea and will participate in this.
BACK TO SCHOOL DONATIONS NEEDED
We need donations for the 13th Annual Back to School Program. We start packing the book bags in July so we need as many donations as possible prior to then so we can help students through 12th grade get the supplies they need to complete school and homework in preparation for a part-time job, college and a career. PLEASE HELP! OUR GREATEST NEED IS monetary donations so we can purchase school supplies at wholesale and maximize the number of children sponsored. HOWEVER, we are also happy to accept donations of the supplies which we have listed below, or gift cards so the parent or guardian can make the purchases for the children. We screen all our referrals to determine the best method of service for the sake of the children based on the option provided to us by you -- the supporters of the program. Approximate cost per elementary student is $50.00 average since the kindergarteners and 1st graders are not very expensive but from 2nd up the costs start to increase with binders, dividers and additional needs each year. The approximate cost per Jr. High and High school student is $95.00 including a $20.00 scientific calculator, $15-20.00 bookbag depending on sales and availability, and a $9.00 to 15.00 jump drive using the bulk of the funds. The schools then request at least 2 to 3, 1-1/2" or 2" 3-ring binders and dividers for each and graphic supplies, writing instruments including the color pencils, markers, pens, and pencil, erasers, paper, and other items listed by school as needed not including the School Planner students need now days to track due dates for home work, tests and projects. As any parent knows, this also does not include things such as project boards and special supplies the schools request of parents and we do not include the request for tissues, hand santizer gel, wipes, paper towels, etc. that are requested of parents of elementary students. Though parents cannot buy these with food stamps since they are not food, we do not list these items as part of our request for sponsors to help with due to the amount of assistance needed for school supplies. By providing these supplies for the children, the parents can focus their funds, if any, on shoes and clothing which is easier for them to get appropriate sizes and colors for uniforms for schools etc. for each child. HOWEVER, if sponsor want to assist with these costs they can add a gift card to Sears, K-Mart or a VISA, MASTERCARD, or DISCOVER Gift card that will help the parents fill this need as well. Every sponsor will be sent a letter telling them about the grade and gender of the child or children they assisted as well as information on the crisis the household experienced resulting in the need for help with the supplies. We have SMENCILS for sale. What are SMENCILS? They are enviornmentally friendly (made from all recycled materials) scented pencils. They are larger than a typical pencil and they have great scent includingorange, bubble gum, watermelon, cinnimmon, grape, root beer, very berry, black cherry, tropical, and cotton candy. They are $1.00 each or 11 for $10.00 (great tie-on for gift package or a little something for your kid or for an adult who has done something for you you didn't expect and want to say thanks without giving them candy or a baby sitter or neighbor child as a thinking of you gift. Half of the cost is tax deductible so if you buy 11 for $10.00, $$5.00 of it is tax deductible. We will mail to you for the added cost of the postage.
