The Way It Should Be Pt3

I’ve learned more there in my few lessons than I did in months of training elsewhere and I’ve done this while I’ve met some great, like-minded people. I feel like I’ve established some lifelong relationships that can only add to the already plentiful benefits t...hat The Pit-Malibu Martial Arts has to offer. Isn’t this what the martial arts is all about? Discipline, focus, strength, respect, honor-all of that is part of it but unlike my other experience here in Malibu, The Pit-Malibu Martial Arts has a warm, family feeling while you know the training you’re getting in is the real thing. For a person who wants to train or wants their kids to train, I don’t know what more a person could want?

The Way It Should Be Pt2

For some, including me, I was intimidated in hearing about how “serious” they were at The Pit-Malibu Martial Arts so when I first walked in the school, I was nervous. As soon as I met the first students showing up for class and got a chance to talk with Kumu Rick, ...his amazing wife Sharine and there wonderful son Sage, I realized this school is more than just a school, it’s a family or as they call it, a “Ohana”(Hawaiian for family).

The Way It Should Be Pt1

If you're looking for the same old type of karate experience then The Pit-Malibu Martial Arts is most likely not the place for you. I've trained at each of the other places in Malibu and with no intent of bashing anyone, I can honestly say that the program at The Pit i...s on a completely different level. Kumu Rick has taken all of the effective fighting and conditioning techniques that are already well established and recognized and he has combined all of this with his obviously very sincere desire to teach. What is so unique about the atmosphere at The Pit-Malibu Martial Arts is the level of sincerity and real-genuine interest in being there that everyone has there. I don’t know all his secrets for staying fired up and hungry after all his years training but Kumu Rick has not lost his desire to continue to be a student himself and after 30 years in the martial arts, he’s still hungry to learn and grow and that honest desire is infectious & spreads to all the students.
