You could go 2 shades darker than the walls with a satin finish that would look smashing. Pull in a little of the mahogany. but just a little, we are talking suttle here.
We just did a kitchen, with dark cherry, we used a dark nutmeg color, looks amasing, just make sure the color works with both cabinets and tile. Bring out the warmth.

Before you do anything , you need to get somer color chips, get carpet samples, and drappery fabric, make sure they all go together before you do anything. pick your ceiling and wall colors from your drppery fabric. put the dark color on the ceiling and light on the walls. if you are in the north make sure you are only working with earth colors. As the north light will make the colors look bad other wise. Let me know how it works
