You can learn to play the piano in your home in your spare time. First, play every key from the bottom to the top, and then from the top to the bottom, in a way that is comfortable for your hands. This will make the entire keyboard familiar to you. Then, figure out the correct notes for a song you know and love, and write those notes down so you have them for reference. Practice this every day for at least 15 minutes, and you will see it's not that hard to teach yourself to play.

These should set the tone of the sound, changing the emphasis on bass, midrange, and treble in the different ranges of your instrument. The effect is minimal sometimes, depending on the amp/instrument combination.
To play minor 2nds on the bass, play the second a full octave above ot below the primary note. This will allow both notes to be played at the same time. The wide distance will avoid a dissonant sound.
The sound will hurt your ears.
Every six months is generally recommended, but I say wait until it sounds out of tune to you. Why waste money? 2 weeks after you turn off the house heat is best for spring, and 2 weeks after you turn on the heat in fall is best.
Well-maintained instruments go up in value over time, so if you are trying to sell it, you may want to offer it at the original price. Ultimately, a piano is worth only what someone is willing to pay for it. If it is in tune and sounds good, you should have no trouble selling it for a reasonable price.
