I am a Marriage and Family therapist. I have been doing therapy for over 20 years. I work with children as young as 2 with a parent and 3 without a parent. I do play therapy, art therapy, sandtray and more conventional talk therapy. Many of my clients are adults struggling with stress, depression, anxiety or challenges in their relationships. I see my role as one who helps others find their own best answers.

How can I get a 2 year old to behave without violence?
"One of the most effective ways to get anyone, even a 2 year old, to do what you want them to do is through positive reinforcement. When a person feels good about themself, they want to please others or cooperate. An encouraged child is the same way. Discouraged children are often uncooperative. Punishment only adds to their discouragement. Therefore using positive reinforcement, they are encouraged and their behavior is positive as well. Check out the Positive Parenting books by Jane Nelson. She has different ones that focus on different ages. They are terrific. I also love Supernanny on tv. She always has great ideas and interventions for families. She generally sets family rules, structured schedule and a positive reinforcement system specifically designed for that family. An emphasis is also made of the relationships and connections within the family and the importance of pleasurable family time together."
