Updates & tips

Those who pay attention to collegiate lacrosse have noticed the increasing number of Canadian players appearing among the NCCA scoring leaders each year. In an effort to give young American players an opporitunity to further develop their skills and an understanding of what is giving these Canadian players such a scoring advantage, we must introduce them to the game that is responsible....Canadian Box Lacrosse!Played 6 against 6 (including goalies) in a hockey rink enviroment, "Canadian Box" is played at a simitlar tempo and with similar offensive and defensive philosophies as basketball. Here are a few of the aspects which make "Canadian Box" different Goals measure 4' high x 4'6 wide as opposed to the 6 'by 6' goals in field lacrosse. Goaltenders are fully padded in a similar fashion to hockey and play in a position with their sticks to the ground as poposed to field lacrossse where they are standing straight up with their stick up high. Goaltending is more about proper positioning than it is about reacting to the ball. The game is played witha shot clock and a count to advance the ball over the mid-line. A face-off takes place after each goal is scored. Turf Island will be offering a clinic on this unique lacrosse experience Sundays Oct 31-December 18.
