Irrigation Tips

With summer right around the corner, our friends at Simmons Landscape offer these irrigation tips: 1. A rain sensor is an absolute necessity for responsible watering. This device will turn the sprinkler system off if we have enough rain, and allow it to come back on when we have had enough drying. 2. After watering if you have wet spots in your yard, first check the operation of that zone for a leak, and if there is none, reduce the amount of run time to eliminate the wet area. 3. On a regular basis, once a month, run through the sprinkler system to be sure that turning heads are turning, and that all heads are operating properly. Early Start to the Season?

Winter seemed quite tamed this year, didn't it? We anticipate on starting production slightly early then usual this year, possibly the first week of March if the weather permits. Soil temperatures are expected to warm up sooner then normal and that pre-emergence needs to be down before we reach a near 55 degree soil temperature. *The pre-emergence herbicide is designed to halt the germination process of crabgrass in a preventative measure. It is recommended to hold off seeding until fall as this product will also effect grass seedlings. If you have bare spots: AFTER we apply the pre-emergence, add a layer (about 1/2") of top soil to the area you wish to seed. The seedlings may be dropped over that new layer of soil. The layer of soil will add a barrier between the seedlings&the herbicide, therefore allowing your new seedlings the chance to germinate. Image by: Joseph Berger
