Tipping The Notary Public

Is it customary to tip a Notary Public? Yes and no. Did the Notary come out to your house? Was it a last minute request? Was it after normal business hours or on the weekend? Then YES! By all means, a tip is in order for the Notary Public that offered his or her services to meet your need. Is the Notary an employee of a business you are working with? Or is it the secretary at your attorney's office? Then, no. Typically any fees are already included in the ancilliary business transaction. Besides, a Notary is only allowed to charge a very small amount of money for the service they provde. Many times, this amount could not possibly be an income that the Notary can live on and must be supplemented by another line of work to make ends meet. Your tip is a way of thanking that Notary for the services provided.
