What are some of the best ways to find out if a four wheel drive truck requires a flatbed tow? How far can a four wheel drive truck be towed without a flatbed tow? Thanks.

If you truck has an Automatic transmission, with push button four wheel drive it has to go on a flat bed or be picked up from the front with the rear drive line pulled. if it is a manual Transmission it can be picked up from the front or rear of the vehicle as long as the transmission transfer case is in neutral. Should be picked up from the rear with the front hubs disengaged and the transfer case in neutral if possible. But if necessary do to location and position it can be towed from the front in the same manner.

Towing any vehicle with an automatic transmission on the drive wheel can damage the transmission.
