Who towed the vehicle?
How does one find out who towed their vehicle? What should be the first step one takes when one's vehicle is towed?

Contact the law enforcement agency having jurisdiction over the area from which the vehicle was towed. Private property tows ("illegal parking") and repossessions must usually be reported promptly to these agencies to avoid false reports of vehicle theft. If the vehicle has not been reported as towed or repossessed, you're speaking to the right people to handle a missing vehicle/ theft report!
Act quickly. Storage charges and administrative fees accrue based on the length of time that the vehicle is in the possession of the towing company. If you feel that the vehicle was towed in error, you can provide payment to either the court (who will then order the vehicle released) or to the towing company. In the latter instance, get a receipt that has charges itemized. Once payment is made, one can pursue a civil law suit. If payment is made through the courts, funds will be held until a mediator/ trial decides in favor of one party.
