How Long do Car Batteries Last?
Every vehicle on the road today has a battery. The battery is what makes the engine run. Without a battery, a car will not even start. A car battery is not something that needs to be purchased monthly or annually; however, there is a limit to the life of a car battery. Here is how long car batteries will last.
There is no way to predict the exact day or time that your battery will expire; however, you should expect a battery to last 3 – 5 years. Some batteries can last 8 – 10 years depending on the amount of use.
Leaving your car idling, driving more often or increasing the number of times you start the engine will decrease the life of the battery.
If you start your car and the engine cranks or struggles to start, you may need to replace or recharge your current battery.
Temperature also plays a major factor in the life of your car battery. Temperatures that are below freezing or above 90 degrees can cause excess strain on your car’s battery; thus, reducing the life of the battery.
Make sure that your engine is in tune. You need to change the oil, spark plugs and air filters on a regular basis. This helps the engine run better and put less strain on your battery; thus, increasing the life of the battery.
You should also make sure your battery is in proper working order. Does it have enough fluid? Is it free of corrosion and debris? These elements can increase or decrease the life of your car’s battery.
