How To Replace a Spa Jet
Owners of a spa may find themselves having to replace a spa jet at some point. This is easy to do and only requires a few steps. It is relatively inexpensive. Directions for a bathtub spa and an outdoor or in-ground spa are different. However, both can be done by homeowners, without the need for a professional.
Items needed:
Adjustable wrench
New spa jet
Flathead screwdriver
Silicone
Owner’s manual
Bathtub Spa
- Check your owner's manual to find information on the spa jets, so you can buy the correct one.
- If there is water in your spa, drain it.
- With an adjustable wrench, grab your jet and tighten the wrench, so you can grip it. Twist the wrench to the left, to loosen the jet.
- Pull the jet straight out.
- Put the new jet in where the old one came out.
- Using the adjustable wrench, put it around the new jet. Tighten the wrench, but not too tight. You do not want to damage the new jet. Turn the wrench to the right to tighten the jet.
- Run water and check to be sure the new jet is working properly.
- Look in the owner's manual to find the access panel for your spa and the spa jet you should purchase.
- Open the access panel with a flathead screwdriver.
- Disconnect the hoses that are attached to the jet that needs to be replaced.
- Take the inside retaining ring and jet collar off.
- Install a new gasket.
- Put some silicone on any groves on the wall fitting.
- Insert the new fitting into the spa jet hole.
- Hand tighten the fitting into the gasket.
- Reconnect the hoses that you previously disconnected.
- Let the water run to clear out any debris. About 10 minutes of running water should be enough.
- Drain the water out of the spa.
- Take the adjustment handle for your new jet and align it with the ribs in the wall fitting. Once they are aligned, press to snap the clips into place.
- Place the jet eyeball and cage into place and snap it in to secure.
- Check the manufacturer's instructions on the particular spa jet that you purchased for information on any other parts that should be installed for that particular model.
- Run the water and be sure the jet is working as it should.
