How to Replace a Sledgehammer Handle
A sledgehammer is a large flat head tool that is attached to a wooden handle. The head of the tool is made of metal and is much heavier than a typical hammer. They are usually used in destruction type work such as breaking through walls or dismantling concrete. The sledgehammer head is quite durable, but the handle may need to be replaced after a period of time.
How to Replace a Sledgehammer Handle
- Remove the old handle from the sledgehammer.
- Use a mixture of soap and water to thoroughly clean the head of the sledgehammer. This should be done to make sure the surface is clean and the new handle will adhere easily.
- Insert the handle core, which is the skinny end of the handle, into the hole of the hammer head.
- Hit the hammer on a concrete surface or something similar until the handle core is through the head and is sitting flush.
- Apply some caulking cord around the insertion point of the hammer handle where it is going into the head. This is done to prevent the epoxy from running out.
- Mix up the epoxy according to the instructions and use it to fill in the spaces between the handle core and the head.
- Allow the epoxy to cure for approximately one week before using.
