How to Adjust the Orbit of Lawn Sprinklers
Sprinkler heads come in a variance of sizes, pressure gauges and ranges to serve a variation of purposes. Whether your sprinklers are in place to help you obtain a picture perfect home and garden lawn or just for recreational purposes they often may need an adjustment or two and below is how to adjust the orbit or your sprinkler.
- Adjust the spray direction - Often times a sprinkler head can be thrown off by the littlest of nuances. Someone bumping into the sprinkler is a prime example of something small that can prevent your beautiful yard from being equally watered. To remedy your lawn sprinkler not watering in the direction you would like it to simply hold the body of the sprinkler while turning the head to the desired location.
- Adjust the watering radius - Lawn sprinkler come in a variance of sizes, which a lot of times impacts the radius and water pressure that is emitted from the pipe. Also your sprinkler head is a big determining factor of what types of watering patterns you will be able to choose from. Two of the more common patterns is the half circle and quarter circle pattern. There is also a two-thirds circle and sprinklers with a center strip that allow you to water in two different directions at once. Whichever pattern you are using can be adjusted by turning the adjustment screw located directly above the sprayer opening. Turning the screw clockwise will decrease the radius or distance that you are projecting at the time. Adversely turning the adjustment screw counter clockwise will increase the radius and or distance.
- Adjust the arc - The arc of most lawn sprinklers are preset at 180 degrees but this can also be changed. Fix the sprinkler head so that it is no longer in rotation mode. You may hear a constant ratcheting sound. While holding the turret in this position insert a flat head screwdriver into the pattern adjustment slot. This is located at the very top of the sprinkler. You should notice a small plus or minus on each side of this adjustment slot. Turning the screw clockwise to the positive will increase the arc while turning towards the minus will decrease the arc.
