How to Attend a Free Online School

Online college coursework can cost hundreds of dollars a semester. There are online schools students can attend for free. These schools may not be eligible for college credit, but you can use them to further your knowledge. These classes can also be used to brush up on subjects you might not have used in years.

  • Go to high school or get your GED. Many high schools offer curriculum online for free. When attending an online high school, ensure the school is accredited by the proper authorities. Some colleges may not recognize diplomas from an unaccredited high school. Additionally, there are several free online courses to help returning students obtain their GED.

  • Choose a course. Most free online schools offer several subjects from which students can choose. Use these courses to review existing knowledge or learn new information. For example, you can take courses in art history, voice over recording or languages.

  • Know what to expect. Free online courses can be taken at your leisure. They do not require books or homework assignments. Many of these courses are self-motivated, meaning you move at your own pace without the assistance of an instructor.

  • Start courses at any time. When you have found a class you would like to attend, you can start the session at any time. Many free online courses offer a link to the coursework that can be accessed at your convenience.

  • Print a certificate of completion. Once you have completed the course, print a certificate of completion to keep in your records. This can be handy when applying for jobs that may require certain skill sets. For example, a certificate from a free online typing course can offer proof of your typing speed.
